Knowing Hebrew is a foundational skill in Torah learning.

The Torah is written in Biblical Hebrew, a variation of Modern Hebrew spoken today in Israel. A foundational Jewish belief is that God wrote the Torah, and to access the text in its original language, one must know how to read and understand Hebrew.
